Timber for racking is the timber decking that is used to lay across beams of your pallet racking, which gives you a solid and durable in surface. It’s one of the quickest ways to make an existing racking system more flexible without buying new racking.

Custom Built Timber for Racking

Off the shelf decking is fine when your racking fits a standard size, but most sites end up with a mix – older racking that’s no longer sold, bays that have been tampered with since installation, and layouts that just don’t match up with standard boards. Rather than squeezing your custom build into an off the shelf size, we build timber for racking to match your exact measurements.

We start by getting your beam centres, bay depth and load sorted, then we work out the best board thickness, whether to go for an open or closed deck, and whether to add some runners underneath to give that bay a bit more stability. If you’ve got a bay that’s a funny shape, or one that’s got obstructions, we’ll build the timber to fit in with all that rather than just give you a standard panel and expect you to make it work.

This is particularly useful in a few situations:

• When you’ve got a racking system that’s out of production – replacement decking is basically impossible to get

Timber for Racking in Damp or Outdoor Conditions

Standard racking timber is usually okay for most warehouse work, but racking that’s stored outside in an unheated building or is exposed to damp or humid environments needs something a bit more robust and won’t rot, warp or attract unwanted critters.

For those sorts of conditions, we can offer you pressure-treated (tanalised) timber that’s been specifically treated to last. Note that this is a separate from the ISPM-15 heat treatment that’s needed for export packaging materials like pallets and crates, which is not something you’ll need to worry about for fixed racking components unless we let you know otherwise.
